User Reviews about Dell Inspiron 1545 15.6-Inch Jet Black Laptop - Up to 4 Hours 34 Minutes of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)
I got this laptop about a month ago, and so far it has been great for me. It connected easily to my home network, and I was able to quickly download and/or install all the programs that I want for it. It runs most programs very smoothly and quickly. I have not used the webcam for much, only for a little bit of testing, but it seems to work great so long as you are not in a dimly lighted room.
Obviously this is not a gaming laptop, so I would not expect it to run high-end games on full graphics, but it runs my emulators and other games excellently on normal graphics. I have had one minor problem with this, when the display driver stops responding for a moment. It only happens when I am playing games, and even then it happens seldom. At first I was worried by this problem, but my brother, who is a computer programmer, assured me it is not something to worry about. Having said this, I would not recommend it for anything other than light gaming, and probably not with newer games.
For the most part, the laptop stays very cool, and the fans, when they do come on, are pretty quiet. The touchpad can occasionally get a little warm with prolonged use, and the bottom can get a little warm when sitting on your lap for a long time, but it is not warm enough to cause concern or a need to stop using the computer. I have noticed, though, that with prolonged use when it gets very warm, the touchpad can from time to time be a little unresponsive or jerky in motion. It does not happen often and does not last more than a few seconds, so cannot be described as more than a minor nuisance. Another thing, I have noticed is that the touchpad does not have a scroll bar on the side of it. This takes some getting used to, and can be annoying, but I have become accustomed to it and it no longer bothers me.
I must say, the glossy finish around the keyboard does look nice, but as one would expect it does attract fingerprints and smudges. The finish on the outside of the computer also attracts the occasional smudge, but there are few that do not.
The screen is beautiful, but with bright light behind it can be a little reflective, though this should not be a problem unless an application or movie has dark colours.
The keyboard is a good size and easy to type on. I especially like the controls at the top of it for volume, screen brightness, and even to pause, fast forward, or rewind a movie.
All in all, this is an excellent laptop for somebody who will use it for simple applications, internet browsing, and maybe light gaming. It definitely is not built for heavy gaming, but it will do very well for everyday usage. -- A good computer
